Amidst the dozens of different jewelry-making techniques, wax carving has long been renowned as one of the most intricate and impeccable types. It’s this exact traditional technique that charges our sculpted Statement Gold Rings with an one-of-a-kind personality that cannot be mimicked.

    What is lost wax carving?

Wax carving is an ancient traditional jewelry-making technique that dates back 6000 years. Wax model makers are gifted artisans that transform a simple block of wax into a work of art starting with a simple lump of jeweler's wax. Just like sculptures working with stones, our skilled artisans file down and reshape the wax to cast the unique model. However, the “lost wax” technique is so called because the wax model is destroyed in order to create the piece.

    The lost wax carving process

In order for the beautiful, intricate details to emerge in pieces like the handmade Uranus Pearl Ring or our sapphire-adorned Androdema ring  a mold has to be created that will allow the wax to escape and the molten metal to be cast. So after the metal is cast and allowed to cool down, the wax model itself is dissolved and scraped away from the metal casting, revealing a statement jewelry piece inside. As soon as the process is completed, jewelry is now ready to be polished and finished by hand. At this stage, the skilled artisans also carefully place the gemstones.

Granted, the lost wax carving style of jewelry-making is not an easy quest. A lot of time, effort, and impeccable skills go into the creative process of crafting uniquely beautiful statement pieces. And because each one literally “breaks the mold” and is a one-of-a-kind, never-to-be-duplicated creation, it takes 7 business days for us to custom handcraft your made-to-size, one-of-a-kind jewel!
